The Ascension Festival, which returns to Santiago de Compostela from May 8 to 12, has revealed its complete program with concerts, dances, attractions and other traditional activities not to be missed.
The festivities will begin with concerts by Santiago 40 Pop, at 9 p.m. in Praza da Quintana, and the Panorama Orchestra, at 10:30 p.m. in Praza do Obradoiro.
The big day of the Ascension, Thursday, May 9, will be enlivened by the performances of Fillas de Cassandra, at 9 pm in the Praza da Quintana, and the Funçao Públika Orchestra, at 10 pm in the Praza do Obradoiro.
On the same day there will be different “alboradas”, “comparsas”, concerts and “cabezudos” (big-heads) in the streets of the Galician capital. The event ‘Folk na rúa‘ will also take place, in which several traditional Galician dance groups will perform in the squares of Compostela.
And as every year, the traditional Ascension Horse Fair will be back at the National Market of Gando de Santiago in Amio.
Friday, May 10 will host the new edition of CompostFest, starring Boyanka Kostova, Dios Ke Te Crew, André G.S. and Cool Nenas who will animate the Praza da Quintana. On the other hand, at 10 p.m. on the same day, Los Player’s Orchestra will perform at Praza do Obradoiro.
Also returning will be the Gaelic GP Dron Festival at the USC Hockey Field, which will run through Saturday with drone activities and competitions.
Saturday May 11 will be marked by the tradition of Compostela with performances of traditional dance schools or tavern songs. In addition, the 24th Festival for the Elderly will be held, with a series of activities designed for the city’s senior citizens.
The day will end with concerts by the Finisterre Orchestra at 10 p.m. in the Alameda and Billie Marten at 10 p.m. in the Praza da Quintana.
The Ascension Festivities will end with the XXIII Ascension Race and the concert of the Municipal Band of Santiago de Compostela, at 7 p.m. in Praza da Quintana.
