Parque do Lago

The Lake Park is one of the green spaces that, together with the Bosque de Galicia and the Xardín Literario, make up the regeneration and landscape integration project of the architectural complex of the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia, located in the Gaiás mountain.

In short, it extends over an area of 51,163 square meters of natural landscape, designed for the relaxation and enjoyment of visitors.

The project, located on the slope of the Gaiás near the Viso, was directed by the director of the Escola Galega da Paisaxe of the Juana de Vega Foundation, the architect Isabel Aguirre.

Undoubtedly, the central element on which this park is structured is the lake of 4,783 square meters that stands out in the set, surrounded by vegetation, and is completed with a wooden platform, benches for resting and a system of low consumption LED lighting.

Until a few years ago, the site was a settling basin into which the waters of the mountain were discharged during the excavations carried out to construct the buildings of the complex designed by Peter Eisenman.

However, the project has turned the whole area into a real natural enclave full of vegetation, willows, abundant flora and fauna, especially wild ducks, other birds and insects.

The space is designed for both hiking and family enjoyment, thanks to the humanization work carried out at the point, with the installation of benches and tables.

In fact, in the vicinity there are spaces dedicated to children’s leisure, such as the Parque da Balea, located to the north and named after a whale-shaped structure inspired by the work of the artist Urbano Lugrís from A Coruña.

As a whole, the area invites relaxation, leisure and disconnection, with planters, betulas and other vegetation that provides shade and creates a pleasant atmosphere.
