Fermín Bouza Brey and Alexandre Bóveda Parks

The
Fermín Bouza Brey and Alexandre Bóveda Parks
form a complex crossed by the Corgo River, which is located between the avenues of Xoán XXIII and Castelao.

The location of these areas facilitates their connection with other points of scenic and natural interest, forming a complete network of parks and green areas for walking and leisure in the neighborhood in which they are located.

The first of these is dedicated to the Galician historian, ethnographer and writer, who was closely linked to Santiago de Compostela and was one of the founders of the Seminario de Estudios Gallegos (Seminar of Galician Studies) in 1923.

The origin of the enclosure is to be found in the gardens built in the 1960s that arose in parallel to the complex of residential buildings that surround it. Subsequently, it was remodeled, conditioned and renamed Fermín Bouza Brey Park.

Like the Parque de la Música, this green area is crossed by the Corgo River and is noted for its abundant shade and rest areas, drinking fountains and the availability of services and sports areas.

Visitors to this green area can enjoy the poplars that delimit the banks of the river, one of the distinguishing elements of this green area. In addition, it has species such as conifers, small groups of Douglas firs or cedar walk lines.

This complex is completed by the Alexandre Bóveda Park, located in the area between the San Caetano and Vite neighborhoods.

The green space is named after Alexandre Bóveda Iglesias, an icon of Galician nationalism who was shot by the rebels at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.

The park is thus erected in memory of the man who was, in Castelao’s words, one of the most important intellectuals of his time and one of the main driving forces of the Partido Galeguista.

This area is also geared for family time. In fact, it has a municipal playground with games for the youngest children and rest areas for their families, in order to create an ideal environment for socializing among the neighbors of the neighborhood.
