Burgo das Nacións Avenue Park
forms a green area together with Xixón Park, located in the Vite neighborhood and connecting with Xoán XIII Avenue.
Both are, in turn, in contact with the Parque de la Música, near the Auditorio de Galicia, and stand out for being very well kept spaces, with large green areas, sports facilities and even a children’s playground.
However, it is especially known for the Xixón Park, an enclave of about 15,000 square meters inaugurated in 1993. In fact, the event was attended by several hundred people, including the municipal councilors of Santiago and Gijón and several members of their corporations, who staged a real celebration in tribute to Asturias.
The park is composed of several paths that facilitate the walk and its access on foot from the Faculty of Economics and from the urbanization built in the area formerly known as ‘Finca de Lois’.
Through this green area, you can contemplate various species of trees, such as Japanese cypress, common cypress, plane trees, cherry blossoms and the ‘fire spirea’, as well as a small oak grove.
Above all, the project to humanize and adapt the site was aimed at turning the area into a center for family life and leisure.
Visitors can enjoy a sports field and areas for physical activity. In addition, numerous benches were installed along the route, a children’s playground and even several picnic areas to encourage active participation and the presence of neighborhood families.
In the outer part, already in the limit with the Music Park, is located the ‘Dolmen Novo Milenio’. This work by Silveiro Rivas was inaugurated in 2000 as part of the program of activities for the consideration of Santiago de Compostela as European City of Culture.
In any case, it is a natural space that benefits from a very central location within the university campus, and close to the area of influence of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
