You don’t have to go far to enjoy one of the best coastlines in Europe. The travel experts of the British newspaper ‘The Guardian’ have selected the forty best beaches on the continent, and Spain is very well represented with six of them.
Carnota beach, just an hour from Santiago de Compostela, has been included in the list of the best beaches in Europe due to its “soft sand” and “wooden walkways”. This beautiful place joins five other Spanish coastal destinations located in the Balearic Islands, Basque Country, Asturias and Murcia. Although Greece leads the list with seven beaches, Spain is just behind, tied with France. Italy and Portugal are close behind with five each. Other countries such as Croatia, Ireland, Germany, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Turkey and Albania have also contributed one beach each.
The British newspaper highlights the wonders of each of the Spanish beaches included in its ranking. In the case of Carnota, in Galicia, its “fabulous sandy beaches that stretch like pearls along the length of Galicia” are described, and mention is made of the wooden walkways that lead to the town across marshy plains. The gently curving bay of Carnota is surrounded by dunes and scrubland, making it a Galician jewel.
With this inclusion in ‘The Guardian’ list, Carnota beach has received well-deserved international recognition for its natural beauty and unique charm.
