The Festa da Uña de San Lázaro is back to celebrate gastronomy and music.

13 Mar 2024 | Culture, Gastronomy

The traditional Festa da Uña, which will be held from March 15 to 18, returns once again to the Compostela neighborhood of San Lázaro and will feature a wide variety of gastronomic and religious activities.

This edition is dedicated to Casilda Porte ‘Chila’, a woman who always cooked the ‘uña’, a typical Galician dish, at the foot of the church. And this year it comes with three new features. The first is that on Friday 15th a nail tasting will be held at the As Cancelas Shopping Center. The second is that Sociedad Deportiva (SD) Compostela, whose stadium is located in San Lázaro, will give away tickets to attend their match against Langreo on Sunday 17 at 17:00.

As a last novelty, the Asociación Veciñal Monte Gozo and the Asociación Gastronómica e Cultural Orde da Uña will organize a guided walk, “O Berce do Sar: percorrendo o barrio de San Lázaro pola beira do río Sar”. On this route, more than four kilometers long, they will show the old tanneries and mills that were located on the banks of the Sar.

In addition, more than twenty restaurants in the city will join the festivities and offer their own versions of the nail in their menus.

Music and gastronomy in equal parts

To accompany the nail, each of the days there will be different musical performances. JB Son and Orquesta Cinema will be in charge of animating the verbena on Saturday, March 16. Sunday 17, meanwhile, will be enlivened by the performance of Banda das Crechas and Orquesta América. Finally, the Orquesta París de Noia will be in charge of closing the festivities on Monday 18, the big day of the Festa de Uña.

During the weekend there will also be several parades by the Fanfurria Furruxa and BB+ brass bands, as well as processions and solemn masses.
