Santiago(é)Tapas has long been an unmissable event in the city, delighting the palate. This time, it will return with more requirements and variety from 19 February to 8 March 2026. Although there is still some time to wait, the City Council has already announced some of the new features that will be included in this 17th edition.
The gastronomic campaign seeks to encourage restaurateurs and customers to participate like never before. That is why the categories of the competition will be diversified; the tasting will be extended to other diets that are increasingly popular and conscious of the well-being of the planet; 65,000 tablecloths will be distributed in bars and restaurants among professionals and customers; and an unprecedented promotion will be launched both on posters and on social media.
The novelty that will most excite those who crave gourmet specialities will be the culinary categories incorporated into the three main ones, divided into traditional, creative and sweet. These will be joined by five additional categories: the classic beer pairing, wine pairing and gluten-free categories, as well as vegetarian or vegan and products with designation of origin, IXP, organic production or Galician artisan food. All will be eligible for a single prize in one of the three main categories, without prejudice to winning others in the additional categories.
Some of the changes proposed in the rules by the council to raise the standard include redefining tapas as a small portion of food, prepared to accompany a drink, weighing a maximum of 90 grams in the traditional category and 75 grams in the other categories. There will also be a greater focus on the culinary techniques used in their preparation.
Likewise, the names of the awards have been changed. The Creative category will now be called the Deputación da Coruña Best Creative Tapa Award, as it will be the tapa representing Santiago in the “De tapas por Galicia” competition organised by Turismo de Galicia. And the Traditional category will be called the Compostela Gastronómica Best Traditional Tapa Award.
Registration for establishments wishing to participate will be open until 7 January and can be completed using the online form on the website santiagoetapas.gal.
