Gaiás Center Museum

The
Gaiás Center Museum
is part of the great complex of buildings of the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia, located on Monte Gaiás and designed by the North American architect Peter Eisenman.

This institution seeks to consolidate itself as an exhibition and architectural reference of the 21st century and is one of the most important buildings of the Gaiás complex.

In fact, one of its lines of action involves collaboration with the Galician museum network and the search for synergies with international institutions, both through co-production projects and exchanges that contribute to the visibility of Galician artistic heritage beyond our borders.

The building stands out for its enormous facade, almost 43 meters high, and its more than 16,000 square meters of floor space.

These characteristics make it possible to promote a wide range of outreach, educational and exhibition activities, with more than 6,600 square meters dedicated to this function and divided into three floors.

The center permanently exhibits on its ground floor a mural by Luís Seoane, painted in Argentina in the 1970s and commissioned by Isaac Díaz Pardo.

This work was designed to separate the workshop from the administrative offices at the Porcelanas de Magdalena factory – Celtia S.A. – founded by Díaz Pardo himself on the banks of the Río de la Plata.

In the entrance hall is the mural ‘Translation of the body of the Apostle to Santiago’, a work of Jacobean theme by Urbano Lugrís.

The building hosts, on its three floors, temporary exhibitions of high level, with large exhibitions dedicated to collect the best of Galician talent and international authors. The philosophy of its programming is based on promoting a dialogue between different artistic trends, from the local to the global.

Culture, in its broadest and most inclusive conception, is the main protagonist of this space, which welcomes and integrates all kinds of artistic, humanistic, creative and knowledge manifestations.

Access to the facilities of the Gaiás Museum is free, from Monday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 20:00 hours.

The building also has a cafeteria-restaurant service located on the ground floor, next to the so-called Hall de Tirantes.
