The Auditorium of Galicia is a building designed to host cultural events and activities. The architects Julio Cano Lasso and Diego Cano Pintos were in charge of its construction. It was inaugurated in 1989 and, since then, it has become the most important concert hall in Galicia and the headquarters of the prestigious Real Filarmonía de Galicia since 1996.
This magnificent auditorium was jointly financed by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Xunta de Galicia and the Concello de Santiago, demonstrating the commitment of the institutions to the promotion of culture.
This large complex offers a year-round program of music and exhibitions of the highest level. The building is a large set of stone volumes that are located in the pond of the Music Park. The auditorium is a neighbor of the North Campus of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
Its exhibition space, known as the Isaac Díaz Pardo Hall, occupies an area of 1,000 square meters distributed irregularly. The circular pillars with a module of 5 meters apart give it a unique aesthetic. The roof is composed of a flat beam slab, while the hanging installations are kept in view by means of electrical rails that allow the placement of light fixtures.
Access is via a ramp that leads visitors to a change of level by means of steps. The lobby, in addition to being a transition space, is itself an exhibition area and has an outdoor exit that facilitates outdoor events and displays.
The complex has three additional rooms. The Angel Brage Hall is the main hall, with capacity for 1,002 spectators. It is designed to host theatrical performances, ballet, music concerts and congresses.
For its part, the Sala Mozart seats 260 spectators and, in addition to being used for concerts and performances, it also functions as a rehearsal room. The Professional Conservatory of Music of Santiago de Compostela performs concerts there frequently.
Finally, the so-called Circular Room is the smallest of all and can only accommodate 50 people. It is used for colloquiums, conferences and more intimate presentations.
The Auditorio de Galicia has established itself as a cultural reference in the region, offering a versatile and welcoming space for the celebration of large-scale events as well as smaller proposals. Its architectural design, the quality of its programming and the excellent acoustics of its halls make it a meeting place for music, art and culture lovers.
