Santiago de Compostela is getting ready to receive a new appointment with international cinema. After the Cineuropa festival, comes ‘Lebanon in 8 mm’, a cycle of screenings that will offer a deep and committed look at the social reality and conflicts in southern Lebanon, from November 25 to 28.

The initiative, organized by the Araguaney-Puente de Culturas Foundation with the sponsorship of the Xunta de Galicia, is an extension of the AMAL Euro-Arab Film Week, which seeks to raise awareness about the Middle East through audiovisuals.

‘Lebanon in 8 mm’ will be held at the Salón Olivo of the Hotel Eurostars Araguaney and all screenings will take place at 8 pm.

Four films, four windows on Lebanese reality

The program brings together four feature films representing the best of Lebanese cinema in recent years over four days. These fiction and documentary films reflect the current situation of this country.

The exhibition will begin on Monday 25th with ‘1982‘, by Oualid Mouaness. It places the spectator in a Beirut marked by the conflict, where an 11-year-old boy tries to confess his love to a classmate.

The cycle continues with ‘Costa Brava, Lebanon‘, by Mounia Aki. The film portrays a family trying to build a utopia away from the urban chaos of Beirut, but must face external and internal threats that challenge their dream.

It is followed by Cyril Aris’ ‘Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano,’ a documentary starring a Lebanese film crew who, after the 2020 Beirut port explosion, decide to continue filming as an act of survival.

‘Lebanon in 8mm’ ends on Thursday 28 with ‘Capharnaün‘, by Nadine Labaki, an Oscar-nominated feature film and winner of the jury prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Through the story of Zain, a boy who sues his parents for bringing him into the world, the film explores the rawness of life on the streets and the struggle for dignity in extreme conditions.

Tickets for this cycle are free, but advance reservations are required by sending an email to info@fundacionaraguaney.org, with a maximum of two invitations per person.
